Description Jeffery MacEachern 2009-01-16 07:16:00 UTC
Version: Plasma version 0.3, specifically, plasma-overlay (reported as 0.0) (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

I'm using KDE version 4.1.96, KDEmod packages, on Arch Linux i686. I have configured plasma-overlay for a few plasmoids (analog clock, LCDweather, calc) with the ASCIIquarium screensaver. When the screen is locked, the screensaver activates properly, but the fading-in of the widgets (set to idleOpacity=0.2, in my case) is delayed. The delay is probably due to my lousy integrated graphics, however, it doesn't fade to the full translucency at all - instead, as the screensaver paints, the full translucency comes in in blocks. (Picture here: http://imagebin.ca/view/CIbYOQ0D.html (sorry about the lousy image quality)) I haven't noticed this problem with the few other screensavers I've tried. I'll check into it more tomorrow.

I couldn't reproduce it here with trunk r958853 + xorg 1.5.3-r3 + NVIDIA 180.51 and another setup with trunk r958853 + xorg 1.5.3-r5 + intel xorg driver 2.6.3-r1.

Could you provide more details such as Xorg version, Graphics card and driver version?

Unfortunately, I had to change my hardware configuration after this was reported, so I can't test it now myself. What I can tell you is that I was using xorg 1.5.x, with an Intel 945GC Express integrated chipset. Given Arch's cutting-edge approach, I would assume that I was using the latest stable driver/xorg versions available at the time of the initial report.

I've just tested it in another computer, running trunk r960363 with Intel 965 + xorg-1.5.3 and it worked nicely. Problem solved? =)

I'd close it, as no one else seems to be able to reproduce it, and I can't confirm either way. (I only have SSH access into the box that I reported it happening on at the moment.)

the problem with the screensaver in the screenshot is that it doesn't first clear the screen; not much we can do about that :)
