Description Gunter Schelfhout 2008-11-22 22:49:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When seleting a directory to move/drop in another place/destination, one gets a context menu which states 'move here, copy here, link here and cancel'.
Since external drives are as normal nowadays as an internal one and this external drives are a lot used as a simple backupplace or shared between pc's, it would be nice to have an extra option to (r)sync the source directory with the destination directory when one tries to move/drop a directory.
Also in the warning dialog which warns for a file/directory to be overwritten, it would be nice to have this (r)sync option.
This way, it would be very simple and very efficient to sync between different places, which as said, is very common nowadays.
Not only as a backupfunction, but in every situation where an external filesystem is mounted over the network for example.
Especially with sharing between larger filesystems/directories/files over slower links (wireless, USB1.1, ...) it would we very welcome to have something more intelligent and efficient solution then just overwrite and without the need to revert to the cli with a higher possibility to mess up.

I don't know if rsync is avaliable via libraries or just via the binary, but it shouldn't be to hard to implement.

This sounds like a job for a more general sync app, that additionally may add a service menu to Dolphin. Good idea.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719
