Description Michael Leupold 2008-10-28 08:09:20 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a koffice application (eg. KWord) and create a new document.
2. Open as many dockers as possible.
-> If I don't move the dockers somewhere else the window gets bigger vertically as soon as the dockers don't fit the remaining space. There's no possibility to make it smaller except for shading the dockers, removing them or moving them somewhere else.

I don't think adding dockers should resize the window. Many users fit the window to whatever space they like. However I don't have a good idea to solve this (scrollable dock area? auto-hiding seems unintuitive).

It also increases the size of the maximised window so that the bottom of the application goes underneath the kde panel at the bottom. I'm not sure the above description was clear. If you add a lot of dockers it will force the application window to resize vertically.

I'm not sure there is much we can do about it. Qt 3.x would put the overflow in columns in this case (obscuring almost all of the document area), Qt 4.x makes the window bigger than the screen: it is now impossible to have columns of dockers, even.

Worse, by default Krita now is higher than my 1024x768 screen even though the dockers fit, because the tool docker wants to take more space than is available for it.

My suggestion would be to block the addition of new dockers if this would cause the window to overflow.
At this point the user should be informed why he cant add dockers, including the recommendation to delete, move away or pool any of the concerned dockers.

Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion.

The "KOffice" application suite is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed.

We recommend to switch to the "Calligra" application suite, which has replacements for all unmaintained KOffice applications:

- KWord was replaced with Calligra Words
- KPlato was replaced with Calligra Plan

For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligra_Suite
