Hi, I solved this bug moving the folder .kde to .kde_back and restarting. Try it.
To get a usable backtrace, please run (as root): debuginfo-install kdebase-workspace (debuginfo-install is part of yum-utils, if you don't have it installed)

FWIW, I logged a bug in RedHat Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=462448 -- which is marked as duplicate of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461848 with a sample "plasma-appletsrc" which makes plasma crash in Fedora 9 attached. If you throw away the whole ~/.kde directory and let it be re-created, then put in the mentioned "plasma-appletsrc", you get the crash. I did not test the reverse - leaving ~/.kde and just removing "plasma-appletsrc".
I update KDE 4.0 to 4.1.1 in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 8.4. KDE 4.0 was working. Now, I get this error (Fatal error - Plasma workspace caused signal 11 (SIGSEGV) and desktop will not load. A black screen with a white mouse arrow follows when I close the error window. KDE 3 and Gnome still work without problems. Similar to the above, i ran into related difficulties when starting to work today. After i updates my packages, plasma keeps crashing when booted. Created attachment 28147 [details] BT from a plasma crash caused by removing a widget from my desktop. Kubuntu 8.10 RC All updates current. This error occurred as I was testing out what the different widgets looked like on the Desktop versus on a Panel. I had one panel with the Task Manager applet, and 6 widgets active at the time: - Trash - Analog Clock - Simple Fuzzy Clock - Calculator - Dictionary - Folder View (of my home folder) The crash occurred right as I chose to remove the System Tray widget from the desktop.
