Description Luke-Jr 2008-08-24 22:29:52 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

My setup involves 2 monitors: the laptop's builtin LCD, which is broken, and an
external LCD monitor. I am using the default -configure output ofr my config.
However, if I disable the internal LCD display with xrandr, KWin doesn't notice. Worse, KWin
only uses the area it supports (1400x1050) for maximizing windows instead of
the full external monitor's resolution (1680x1050). I can live with that too,
but the problem that *really* gets me is that mplayer in fullscreen mode is
cropped at the 1400 width, while mplayer is apparently told of the full 1680
and renders as if it has the full screen region available. So even if the video
could be made to fit in the 1400x1050 dimension, it is centered across the 1680
and cropped on the right.

So I guess this is 3 bugs:
1. Doesn't adjust to an output being disabled properly.
2. Inability to prefer the maximize-size of the larger monitor.
3. Reporting different resolution to mplayer than is used.

I'm having similar problems with my Kubuntu. I have a LCD-TV connected through composite (1080i), and latest KDE-update from hardy-backports is causing strange behavior on that TV. Applications will maximize only to the resolution what i have in my CRT, also fullscreen-mode will maximize only to that area (1152x864 at top-left corner). However, downgrading KWin to earlier version made it behave like it should, so i assume there is something wrong with the latest KWin.
Comment 3 Atze 2008-10-21 11:40:14 UTC
I have the same problem Kubuntu 8.04, dual displays with nvidia driver (latest) KDE 3.5.10 and dual-head with seperate X-screens setup (no Xinerama, no twinview)I have an TFT on 1600x1200 (1st screen) and a TV on 720x567 (2nd screen). Maximizing on the TV, maximizes the windows to 1600x1200, which is huge on a tv. The kicker is the correct size on both desktops. Switching the screen numbering in xorg.conf (ie making the TV screen 0 and the TFT screen 1) reverses the problem, now maximizing on the tv is ok, but maximizing on the TFT maximizes the window to 720x567.

Can't reproduce any of this in KDE 4.8.3. Two monitors running at different resolutions, and I can maximize and run apps properly fullscreened. MPlayer works a treat in a secondary monitor here.

So, please, close as RESOLVED / WORKSFORME unless OP proves me wrong.
Comment 7 Luke-Jr 2012-06-06 20:15:35 UTC
OP no longer has multiple monitors (I reported this in 2008!), so it's up to Jari or Atze...

KWin apparently didn't receive the geometry change -> probably been kephal issue.
