Description kavol 2008-08-01 11:45:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux

Hello.

I was trying to download Qtopia flash image for FIC Neo Freerunner (gta02) from http://www.qtopia.net/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=75 but I got the error message:

--^CUT--
Sorry, this file must be downloaded from our main site, not externaly linked to.

Thank's: Taking you to the correct downloads page.

Opera users: Make sure referer logging is enabled.

Firewall users: Be sure to turn it OFF.
--^CUT--

from the webpage. Capturing the traffic using wireshark, the HTTP request looks like:

GET /modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=75 HTTP/1.1
Connection: Keep-Alive
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.1; Linux 2.6.25.11-97.fc9.x86_64; X11; x86_64; cs, en-US, en) KHTML/4.1.0 (like Gecko) Fedora/4.1.0-2.fc9
Accept: text/html, image/jpeg, image/png, text/*, image/*, */*
Accept-Encoding: x-gzip, x-deflate, gzip, deflate
Accept-Charset: utf-8, utf-8;q=0.5, *;q=0.5
Accept-Language: cs, en-US, en
Host: www.qtopia.net
Cookie: istats=010820080955; PHPSESSID=lj14h8bn49mm3aq5t7fdb1nml6

- and that is all, no Referer header.
I tried to search Konqueror settings, but I was unable to find anything for switching on the sending of the Referer information (there should be some setting for sure, as some people may see sending of Referer as a privacy problem).

Download of the file works as expected if I use Seamonkey.

There were many Referer-related bugs in the past, but none of the open ones seems to me to match this issue, therefore I open this one new.

This one is with target=_blank
Comment 2 Anthony Donnefort 2009-01-30 22:36:19 UTC
Same behavior here with 4.2.0: target="_blank" on a link results in a missing referrer.
Comment 3 kavol 2012-01-03 21:02:11 UTC
this is still valid with 4.7.3 (btw, wonder why this got version 4.1.0 set recently, when nearly three year old comment says it is the same with 4.2.0?)

tested via http://www.stardrifter.org/cgi-bin/ref.cgi

if I click "Link back to this page" I get "Referer: http://www.stardrifter.org/cgi-bin/ref.cgi"

if I ctrl+click that link, opening that in a new tab, I get "Referer:" (empty)
Comment 4 Janek Bevendorff 2012-06-18 19:57:04 UTC
As I can read in the comments, this still seems to be an issue in more recent versions of KDE. Please check if this issue is still valid for Konqueror 4.8.4 or later and update the version field accordingly.
