Description Werner Meyer 2008-05-18 23:19:10 UTC
Version: 1.9.6 (using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

In german the %ODATE is printed as e.g. „Sonntag 18 Mai 2008“.

At least it is necessary to put a comma and a dot:

„Sonntag, 18. Mai 2008“

(which is not really nice, but better than the default of now)

Should be possible to put date and day separately, cause we need several things like:
„am Sonntag, dem 18. Mai 2008“
„vom Sonntag, dem 18. Mai 2008“
„Sonntag, den 18. Mai 2008“

(in older versions it was possible to define the format of date, now unfortunately I find this no more)

In help (handbook) there is no comment about the
%ODATE
%FROMNAME
%FROMADDR
…

(Formerly known as
%D	%S	%e	%F	%f	%T	%t	%%	%_	%L)

(see also http://www.easylinux.de/Artikel/ausgabe/2004/02/060-kde-tipps/)

To define the formate of date works under KDE 4.2.2. It`s possible to create "Sonntag, 18. Mai 2008.

The regional format in KMail depends on your regional settings. You can find the version with "Sonntag, 18. Mai 2008" in your local settings (in the system configuration). But if you set regionales format in KMail, it takes just the short version of the date. So you got this version 04.04.2009. So here it would be nice to be able to switch to the long version with "Samstag, 4. April 2009".

The second idea that we can insert prepositions like "am" and "vom" could go to the wishlist.

On my system, using KDE 4.2.1, %ODATE expands correctly to

"Samstag, 04.04.2009"

Strangely, the settings in systemsettings were wrong, though. Kmail works fine, though, before and after correcting the settings.

Stupid me, I wanted to say that it expands correctly to

"Samstag, 04. April 2009"

"Am" or "vom" is part of the template, not of the %ODATE macro, which I consider to be fine.

As it can be necessary to put „dem“ in between (e.g. am Sonnabend, dem 4. April 2009) there remains something to do.
(Btw - I don't like leading zeros like 04. and I prefer Sonnabend against Samstag.)

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
