Can you please provide more information? Were you right clicking in a file in the filemanager or in a webpage? What did you copy? how did you paste using Ctrl+V or with right click > Paste? etc

COMMENT:

Right click cut or copy in K/ file manager, at the time running file manager su mode. I did not try the same in dolphin. It could be that at the time I was running 2 sessions, one as kde3 and the other kde4 - same user account, though I can't say for sure/ I will try and repeat the crash and report back.

Ok, I have tried to duplicate this, trying whilst running both kde4 and kde3 together, and so far it has not repeated itself. Though I do find the clipboard contents do not hold if you for eg: copy an item in a window - close the window - then open a new window. You have to go back to the clipboard to pick the item again.
