Version:           1.2.50 (using Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources
Compiler:          gcc 
OS:                Linux

Probably this issue is related to the (actually solved) column width problem.
The first column of both lists is not visibile, both in the left panel and the right one. This caused the impossibilty of reading what is the name of the source you're reading (left panel) and the title of the article (right panel).

Try to remove the akregator config file, and try then again:
~/.kde/share/config/akregatorrc or ~/.kde4/share/config/akregatorrc

it didn't work for me, still the same issue

removing akregatorrc actually worked fine
