Description Michael Schuerig 2007-11-17 17:01:28 UTC
Version: 1.2.8 (using KDE 3.5.8, Debian Package 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-4 (lenny/sid))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22-3-686

Akregator does not prevent adding the same feed multiple times. In my opinion, this is a bug in the specification, although not in the implementation.
Comment 1 Frank Osterfeld 2007-11-27 00:04:24 UTC
Actually I consider it an implementation bug ;-)
It's perfectly fine IMO to have a feed in multiple folders (think of categories or tags where every item can have multiple tags). However, Akregator considers both entries as separate feeds which unfortunately share the same article archive, which can lead to all kinds of strange behavior. Ideally there would be exactly one "logical" feed with the ability to appear in multiple folders.

I agree with Frank, this should be possible, and it could be handled better. Not only avoid the need of Akregator internals to have duplicated information or refresh the same feed twice, but also so you can mark one of the instances of the feed as “read”, and get the other one marked as “read” as well.

In addition, I would say that you should get a warning dialog when doing it (in case you did not want to add a duplicated feed), so you can cancel if you want to.
