Description Stephan Sokolow 2007-10-03 10:12:34 UTC
Version: 0.12.5 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20070214 ( (gdc 0.23, using dmd 1.007)) (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.0.1)
OS: Linux

Sometimes, without warning, Kopete will tell me that my buddy icon is bad. I forgot to save the exact text of the message, but it's one of those modal protocol-specific popups akin to a javascript alert() (OK button and some text) and once I click OK, it will continue on working properly as if nothing happened.

Sometimes it can go weeks without complaining but, as I found when I woke up today, it has the potential to recur dangerously frequently. Bug #150435 (Kopete freezing the X server by opening 452 dialogs during the 8 hours I was asleep) was caused by these spurious "your buddy icon is bad" dialogs.

Do you mean the message "The selected buddy icon could not be opened. Please set a new buddy icon." from the Yahoo protocol?
Comment 2 Stephan Sokolow 2007-10-03 22:03:44 UTC
That's the one.
Comment 3 Matt Rogers 2007-12-11 04:54:34 UTC
Could you attach a buddy icon to this report that causes the problem?

If you could also explain how we need to set the buddy icon exactly, that would be great. Having both of those things will make it easier for us to reproduce and fix the bug.

The buddy icon I've been using

I believe I originally set it by using Configure --> Identity --> Photo -->
Custom, but it's currently set to "Use photo from contact for global photo"
with my MSN account selected. As I remember, at the time, it was refusing to
stay on "Custom".

I haven't had the problem recently though, so I suspect KDE 3.5.7 may have
fixed it. I'll keep an eye on it. If you don't see a response from me within
the next 30 days, feel free to mark this bug fixed.

I suffer from this too.

Also dialog 'The selected buddy icon can not be opened' should show more information: which user's icon has a problem. And it should suggest the available icons, not just show the text.

Also I submitted the related bug that this dialog shows up many times one over another, and once at a time is enough: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156885

Hello from the KDE Bugsquad!

Unfortunately, Yahoo has discontinued the Yahoo Messenger service, and the code has been removed from Kopete.

Thus, I am closing this bug as "UNMAINTAINED" since it will no longer be fixable, or able to operate due to Yahoo.
