Version: 3.5.6 (using KDE 3.5.6 "release 64.1" , openSUSE ) Compiler: Target: x86_64-suse-linux OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.18.8-0.1-default Hi! since some days it is not possible any more to open word and excel files, which reside on sftp shares, with Openoffice from konqueror opening the file from the comandline with kioexec works file. see also bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130709
Is this bug still there?
yes in 3.5.9 - "general internet error has occurred"
I can't reproduce the bug in 3.5.9 or trunk, because konqueror asks first if I want to download the file or open it with the default choice, which in my case is Open Office too.
I can't reproduce this bug with OpenOffice 3.0 and KDE 3.5.10. OpenOffice tells me that it will download the file first as it can't access it directly. I'm closing it as fixed. Reopen if you still encounter the problem with newer versions.
I still have (some different) problems KDE 4.3.1 "release 163" OO 3.1.1 OpenSuSE 11.1 1) the *doc file is recognized as "Plain text file" in konqueror 2) click on it opens in kwrite (nothing else expexcted for plain text) 3) opening explicitly with OO-writer - does "nothing" (visible) - no error no file opened. *.doc files are well defined as msword files which should be opened in OOwriter IMHO sftp does not recognize them....
a) This has nothing to do with this bug. b) This is not a bug, *.doc is associated with kwirte. See systemsettings -> advanced -> file associations -> text -> plain
@Andreas How can you tell me that doc files are associated with kwrite, if I describe that doc files are associated with Openoffice Writer in my case ??? And OO does not open the file if called explicitly.
Can you open the remote file with kwrite, kate or another KDE application?
(In reply to comment #8) > Can you open the remote file with kwrite, kate or another KDE application? yes, as I described in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144229#c5 the sftp seems not to use/recognize the mime types settings
a) As you can open the files with kate and kwrite, but not explicit with OpenOffice, this is an OpenOffice bug. b) The mimetype on the remote side is only detected using the filename extension. It doesn't read the content to detect the mimetype. This will be slow directory listing down. The filename extension *.doc is per default linked to kwrite.
I cannot duplicate this issue in KDE 4.x. Do you still have this issue on the recent KDE 4.x KDE releases ?
I have still the problem, that now Libreoffice does not open files shown by kio (sftp, smb, fish) I can open the remote directory but then "You can only open local files" probably its a Kfiledialog miss configuration (David Faure mentioned this once), but I can not find this any more.
Did you check your ~/.xsession-errors file for any interesting output there ? It does not make sense since this works perfectly fine for me with any ODF document on sftp/ftp sites.
Ferdinand, feel free to reopen this ticket if you have more specific information on how to duplicate this issue. No matter what I did, I am unable to reproduce the problem.
