Description kat 2007-01-27 03:39:17 UTC
Version: 3.5.5 (using KDE 3.5.5, Kubuntu (edgy) 4:3.5.5-0ubuntu3)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.17-10-generic

When creating a file name with Konqueror or Amarok using a Unicode charachter outside the ASCII set, This filename is not readable by other Unicode enabled file browsers.
Steps to reproduce:
(I'm using Xubuntu Xfce 4 Desktop Environment
version 4.3.99.1 (Xfce 4.4 BETA2)
[KDE is too heavy for my machine (sorry)]

1) Open Konqueror
2) Create an empty file (right click.. new... Text File)
3) Name it José Nuñez
4) Open Thunar
5) Browse to the file location
6) The name in Thunar is now Jos Nuez (with diamonds filled with questionmarks)
7) In Thunar create a file named José Nuñez
8) Browse to the file location in Konqueror
9) You now see a file named José Nuñez
10) which funny enough also happens when I type it into this text field in Konqueror.

So what is broken with the Unicode in Konqueror?

Update to this bug. I'm using the Dutch UTF8@Euro locale in Xubuntu.
When I switch the locale to English (USA) the problem is mysteriously gone.

I am unable to reproduce this bug on KDE 3.5.7 and on SVN trunk r803711. I set $LANG and $KDE_LANG to nl_NL.UTF8@Euro. However i did not test from a XFCE session.

KDE 3.x is no longer maintained.
If you can reproduce with current KDE (>= 4.6.4), please reopen.
