Version:           1.2.5 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages
Compiler:          gcc version 4.1.1 Gentoo 4.1.1-r3
OS:                Linux

It seem that an earlier bug of scrolling in the article list using arrow keys returned. It seems not possible to scroll through the list of articles using the up and down keys. The left and right keys work

That was never changed and isn't a bug.
Up and down is reserved for scrolling the article pane, so left and right is used for navigating in the article list. You apparently can't use the up and down keys for both. We follow the KMail scheme here.
If you want other shortcuts, you should change them in Settings->Configure Shortcuts.

I personally don't find this very logical when using a wide screen view, but i understand the reason and will close this bug.
