Version: 3.5.1 (using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" , SUSE 10.1) Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.21-0.25-smp If a file/directory list is present on the screen with NOTHING selected the action of SHFT + Click will select an undevined number of files/directory. IF however a file/directory is first selected then SHFT + Click functions correctly. When presented with an unselected list the correct operation of SHFT+ Click should select the CURRENTLY selected file/directory and the next to be selected under SHFT + Click. Currently without a selected file/directory a SHFT + Click will select the corresponding and an unknown number of other which are not yet selected. 100% re-producable
I can reproduce with KDE 3.5.5, SUSE Linux 10.1.
I can also reproduce with KDE 3.5.5 "release 45.2" Suse Linux 10.2 I have NO idea what conception you have altered KDE 3.5.5 "release 45.2" to. It is certainly NOT what I thought I adequately described above and is certainly does not follow CUA convention. Without keyboard conventions like those that have been laid down for over 25 years in controlling mass/singular selection of files and directories we may as well ALL give up now! If we have NO standard to work towards then the software becomes a salad. - Its not too hard!
Thank you for the bug report. It appears the bug is no longer present in KDE SVN trunk (r809157). I am not sure the current behaviour is what you expect. Feel free to open a new bug report after having tested the new version.
A part a new bug introduced recently, which is going to be fixed, shift select will works correctly in KDE SC 4.4.
