Description Zbigniew Luszpinski 2006-11-14 22:23:29 UTC
Version: 3.5.5 (using KDE 3.5.5, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.6
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.18.2

There is no transparency for flash plugin. If flash plugin uses web page for its background the background is drawn as grey colour filled box.

Example of 'grey colour filled box'

The background of baloon help animation should be web page. In Linux it is grey. In Windows it is OK. This bug is flash version independent. Linux flash plugin author says the web browser does not provide background pixmap to flash plugin to make transparent background.

This bug is visible in all versions of Konqueror, Firefox and Seamonkey.

Text from Linux flash plugin blog:
http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/2006/11/chart_toppers.html
"WMODE: This goes by many descriptions: WMODE, transparency, windowless mode, "grey region where the SWF should be", and "Hey, the Javascript menus drop down behind the SWF".

The latter issue is a bit trickier since it involves browser code over which we have no control. It's a known issue for the browser that has been open for a little while. (So, any open source hackers out there who have been wanting to do something to improve Flash support on Linux, this might be a good place to start.) In the interim, the comment thread on that bug page describes some possible workarounds."

Patch for mozilla? Interesting talk about such bug.

Adobe is going to fix this using XEmbed?
Is konqueror ready to support XEmbed?

Adobe Flash is dead now. Closing unresolved as Adobe Flash is not present anymore.
