Description Maciej Pilichowski 2006-11-03 17:35:11 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Konqueror as I can see has problems with addresses put such

www.żyć.pl

For example. Both Polish characters are "translated" to "?". I don't discuss if it is correct or not because I don't know the latest changes in internet protocols (if this is a bug, please let me know, I open another report).

But! I cannot use web shortcuts properly because of this bug. I defined polish google as gpl and
gpl:zależny

gives me
zale?ny

and google cannot do anything about it. I have to correct it each time.

Ok, I "solved" the problem. The bug here is subtle -- the Konqueror works this way, that the default encoding for web shortcut is SYSTEM default, not KONQUEROR default. Big difference. Of course web shortcut default should mean "konqueror default", that's why some user want to redefine encoding within Konq. only.

It works for me in svn trunk r807691
Comment 3 Maciej Pilichowski 2008-05-18 18:10:25 UTC
Jaime, you have system LANG set to ISO-8859-1, Konqueror default to ISO-8859-2, google.pl uses default encoding (shortcut: gpl) and when you type
gpl:żyć

it is properly encoded.

Note -- do not use UTF-8!

Already fixed in 4.6.
