Description S. Umar 2006-10-17 17:55:37 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
Compiler: gcc-4.4.1
OS: Linux

When I go to http://www.cnn.com some boxes are empty. Most obvious one is the
advertisement on the right hand side of "LATEST NEWS". I do not have adblock
filters on. There is also a smaller box under the "QUICK VOTE" frame, which
is empty. The first frame sais "advertisment" on top wwhere as the second
one sais "Featured Sponsors".

Thanks
Umar

Can't confirm.
Comment 2 Bram Schoenmakers 2006-10-17 18:44:55 UTC
I can confirm:

* The 'tab' like image which is supposed to say "Top stories" is empty (under Latest news)
* The big (Flash) advertisement at the right is blank
* The featured sponsors section is also empty in Konqueror. There is no flash, only text + images
Comment 3 S. Umar 2006-10-17 20:20:08 UTC
This is exactly like mine. I have the flash plugin showing up correctly
under about:plugins listing. In addition I have kmplayer 0.9.3 java plugin
1.5.09, acroread nppdf.so 7.0.8, and mozplugger with a limited subset (things
not in kmplayer).

Also, this is happening both on i386 and x86_64 systems.
Comment 4 S. Umar 2006-10-19 16:05:03 UTC
I pulled the khtml from SVN last night an rebuilt. The same problem persists.
I don't understant how you (Maksim) can't confirm this. Perhaps you have some
additional patches that is fixing the problem. Could you please reconsider.

Comment 5 lexual 2006-10-19 16:15:12 UTC
I can reproduce with 3.5.5. I can also confirm that firefox renders these boxes, and konqueror doesn't.

Usually, not rendering advertising is seen as a feature ;)
Comment 6 Maksim Orlovich 2006-10-19 16:31:31 UTC
The ads are missing for me --- but the top stories thing is just fine, on e.g. Kubuntu 3.5.5 and my own latest builds.

Comment 7 S. Umar 2006-10-19 16:39:17 UTC
Yes, that is correct, but there are other boxes missing down below as well.
Similarly on, http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/index.html I see a big gray box on
the right side. Is this due to adblock messing up somehow?
Thanks
Umar
Comment 8 Maksim Orlovich 2006-10-19 16:56:48 UTC
Ah, I misread, my apologies --- I thought the report said the "latest news" thing that was missing, and not the thing to the -right- of latest news. I hope you understand that that's a huge difference in priority there..

*** Bug 136050 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 10 S. Umar 2006-11-16 16:16:20 UTC
Is this happening because of a "." in the directory names? I can't figure
it out since other sites seem to work fine. Just a reminder!
Thanks
Comment 11 S. Umar 2007-02-03 01:20:53 UTC
This bug is still present in KDE 3.5.6. It is a shame for
konqueror not to be able to correctly display such a common
site like cnn.com!
Comment 12 S. Umar 2007-07-10 16:22:51 UTC
Ditto 3.5.7
Comment 13 Philip Rodrigues 2008-04-21 02:07:26 UTC
I can't see any difference between the konq trunk and firefox renderings here. Also looks the same in 3.5.8, as far as I can tell.
Comment 14 S. Umar 2008-04-21 14:52:14 UTC
No. I still have empty advertisement boxes with no adblock.
Comment 15 James Spahlinger 2008-04-23 00:57:48 UTC
S. Umar what version of konqueror are you currently using?
Comment 16 S. Umar 2008-04-23 01:12:28 UTC
I am using 3.5.9 from Fedora 8 + updates
This is the CNN-USA
Other news sites do not have these problems.
Comment 17 S. Umar 2008-10-23 16:36:49 UTC
What happened to this bug? I still have it with 3.5.10, Fedora 8.
Comment 18 Andrea Iacovitti 2013-11-02 19:57:31 UTC
Can reproduce here (KDE 4.11.2). May be site layout has changed...
