Description J 2006-10-15 01:27:36 UTC
Version: 1.4.3 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 4.1
OS: Linux

I´ve one of the new 80 GB video ipods and the first thing i wanted to do is to transfer my complete collection (about 15000 songs with 75 GB) to my ipod. However after about 2 Hours, 50% of the files are transferred (at 22:00). When i waked up in the morning, about 75% of the files are transferred and still in the evening only 86% was transferred. top shows that amarok is consuming about >90% cpu power. I canceled the transfer, removed the ipod and attaches it again. When connecting the ipod, again amaroks gui consums about 90% cpu power and gets unresponsive. After several minutes, the ipod media player tab shows the currently transferred songs.

I tried to transfer the rest of my playlist but it´s still very slow. I updated libgtkpod from version 0.3.2 (which was the original which comes with suse) to 0.4.0 with still no better results.

How did you try to transfer your playlist? Did you try to 'synchronize' a
playlist or did you just try to 'transfer' it? A smart playlist or a regular
playlist?

For the first time the iPod was completely fresh. Even the ITunesDB wasn´t initialized. I tried to transfer the "complete collection" playlist in 'transfer' mode. After cancelling the transfer, i tried to transfer the remaining songs with the synchronize option.

Should i build a debug version to give you more information?

Recently, I made some changes that could speed up the transfer. Could you please get a current svn version (perhaps use the amarok-svn.sh mentioned on the wiki) and check if the situation has improved for you?

Could you please start with a fresh ipod again as a first test?

I compiled the CVS version from last saturday. Tried to transfer my complete collection yesterday evening. Everything starts fine. Estimated transfer rate was 1-2 songs/second. But today morning i saw the transfer stopped during the night at about 25% (3500 songs). Can´t even close amarok (only the gui). Even killall -9 amarok doesn´t work. Probably i had to reboot my machine.

Hello,

I have a very similar problem. The playlists are always destroyed after syncing with amarok or gtkpod (/usr/lib/libgpod.so.0.302.0).

I reseted the iPod (80GB, 5th Gen. Video, black, Firmware 1.2.1) using the Apple SW and tar'ed up the contend of the iPod. Than I synched with amaora and tar'ed up again. Only two files differ:

flanders:~/ipod> diff -r clean/ipod/ corrupt/ipod/
Binary files clean/ipod/iPod_Control/Artwork/ArtworkDB and corrupt/ipod/iPod_Control/Artwork/ArtworkDB differ
Binary files clean/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB and corrupt/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB differ
Only in corrupt/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes: iTunesSD

Regards,
Chris

This improved a lot in Amarok 2.
