Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux In my view the the M3U playlist file type description is not accurate At present it is listed as: Streaming MPEG Layer 3 Audio The files are not necessarily streamed over the internet, they are very often local files. It should say: MP3 playlist Would you agree? Kind regards Jon
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=65772 http://hanna.pyxidis.org/tech/m3u.html I agree that the current description should be improved. Perhaps it shouldn't be "MP3 playlist" though, as it appears that the playlist doesn't necessarily have to contain mp3s. Perhaps "M3U Playlist File"?
Hi Lexual, Thanks for confirming. Perhaps "M3U Playlist" sounds good to me (as you suggest, just without the "File" word at the end). I notice there is another field on the File Properties General tab, it says "Contents", is this a guess at the file contents? Because for M3U files it either says "Plain Text Document" or "C Source Code File" (I can't remember the exact name for the C Source one, but something like that. So maybe the way the "Contents" is figured out might have a problem for M3U files. Does KDE have a file mime-type guessing function? Which looks at the file extension and the file contents etc? Kind regards Jon
KDE4 says "MP3 audio (streamed)" which is not precise because it could contain OGG for example.
This needs to be reported to freedesktop.org since KDE's file assocation for the most part comes from the shared-mime-info package. KDE does add its own specific files, but overriding the definition of a type that already exists is something that should be avoided as much as possible.
Thanks for the reply. Can it be redirected to freedesktop? I opened this bug 5 years ago. I no longer use KDE so is not relevant to me. The issue may already be fixed in latest freedeskop and KDE. I think bugs should'nt be allowed to be open for so long.. KDE need to hire some QA team!
