Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages Starting of Konqueror (and many other applications) results in an error message: "Could not find mime type ... application/octet-stream". First of all, this message does not describe the problem sufficiently. I am trying to guess the error: the application/octet-stream file association does not exist. This is true, it does not exist, but how did it disappear? I know I have modified my file associations and this problem must be somehow the result of that modification, but I did not delete the file association for application/octet-stream. Recreating the association for "application/octet-stream" (with empty settings, only filling the "Group" and "Type name" fields) solved the problem. I cannot test what happens if I delete the association again, as it cannot be deleted (the "Remove" button is disabled if this file type is selected). I cannot reproduce the bug as I do not know exactly what has caused it, but willing to help identifying the error if someone gives me hints.
I have the same problem when running ksnapshot. [erik@epohost ~]$ ksnapshot -v Qt: 3.3.6 KDE: 3.5.4-0.3.fc5 Fedora-Core KSnapshot: 0.7
I had the same problem with Mandriva 2008.1 after removing some packages. Your solution seam to have a good result Michel de mendez
