Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: Mandriva RPMs OS: Linux When using KDE with compiz+XGL/AIGLX ( see http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=24557 ), only 1 desktop and 1 viewport is shown, and you can't switch from one viewport to another one with kde pager ( contrary to gnome one ). So unless you know the right keys shortcut, you may never noticed there's viewport and that you can navigate through them. It seems that KDE pager is missing viewport support : Comment #5 From Olivier Blin 2006-08-28 22:30 [reply] ------- It's not a compiz bug. compiz uses one desktop with many viewports. The KDE pager should support viewports (probably through _NET_DESKTOP_VIEWPORT)
none of my machines can run xgl so i don't run compiz and i don't have any other wm's installed that use workspaces. given the state and nature of xgl i'm not exactly motivated to change that. someone who does use xgl is welcome to have at it. maybe mandriva or suse who are both pushing this technology on their users would like to step up and finish what they started?
This is FIXED in kde 3.5.5
I'm not sure if this is closely related, but here I go: When I use KDE with beryl as WM kicker always lists all apps from all desktops/viewports/whatever. With kwin only those of the current one are displayed, which I like better. Is this a problem with beryl or kicker?
In 3.5.6, the small pager in kicker now works correctly, but the pager window (right click -> "Launch Pager") is still broken: it only shows windows from the current viewport stretched vertically to cover the entire virtual desktop (in my case, 3 viewports).
Dragging windows from one vieport to another on the kicker applet doesn't work either. There's a version that fixes it (albeit with bugs) here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=46021
I have this problem with kicker-compiz, which I used to try to solve the desktop pager issue in MDV: For Mandriva 2007.0 PWP, the rpm does not load kicker-compiz into the list of applets to add to the taskbar; /and/ it disables 3d effects in MCC; the ability to enable is completely grayed out in Hardware-->3ddesktop effects. There's no real "executable" for kicker-compiz, so I can't add it to the kicker, either. So, I've uninstalled it, but am back to having only one desktop in KDE, and no way to change it to have the 4 (or more) viewpoints again. . . However, I am on KDE 3.5.4-something. If I'm understanding right, kicker-compiz is only a fix for KDE 3.5.5 and above, and for some reason my system, even with very good urpmi sources, is not pulling that version of KDE down.
