Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.3) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux I have a directory with about 20000 files. When I try to open this in Konqueror it takes more than a minute to display all contents. It looks like Konqueror reads some bytes of each file to get its file type or so. It would be better if this check would be done in a second run after displaying the list.
Yes, even the first-time reading of /usr/share/docs takes about 10 secs here on a fairly fast system. After that, the information gets cached so the second time it's all much faster. I just checked with Krusader and it's the same problem there. However, opening a directory with MC is much faster.
still a bug in KDE 3.5.8
I can't confirm the bug. I tried with 20000 files on 3.5.9 and dolphin/trunk r809039. While it takes around 8s for konqueror to stop loading I can navigate the files while doing so. It might however be related to the file-type. Could you please recheck if the bug still exists for you?
Can't confirm and no response by reporter. Closing. Please reopen if you can still reproduce on a current version of KDE.
