Description Janet 2006-07-15 19:25:35 UTC
Version: 3.5.3 (using KDE 3.5.3, Debian Package 4:3.5.3-1 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.16-kanotix-1

When I want to filter out files of a special file ending in the konqueror filemanager (Tools - View Filter) in the directory /usr/share/services the description of files with the ending ".desktop" is wrong: instead of "Desktop Config File", "KDE parts protocol" or something similar those files are declared as "This conduit syncs the handheld addressbook with KDE's addressbook." No grave bug but peculiar :).

I get "Desktop Config File" here on KDE 3.5.5 / Kubuntu 6.10. Shame, I quite liked to the 'conduit' thing.

Are you able to confirm with 3.5.5 Janet?

No, I still have that handheld stuff with KDE 3.5.5. But maybe it now is only in the German translation ("Abgleich der Adressbücher von Taschencomputer und KDE")? I think it happens because the first .desktop file in that directory abbrowser_conduit.desktop is declared as file type "Abgleich der Adressbücher von Taschencomputer und KDE" and that it is assumed that all .desktop files in that directory must be of the same file type as the first one. There are some other .desktop files that have such perculiar file type description. IMHO all .desktop files should have the same file type description which shouldn't be misused as a service description. The problem is the Comment= section in the .desktop file. It is shown as file description.

Well, I guess we can close this as this seems to be an intentional behaviour, the comments are still shown as filetype description in dolphin. At least they now show different text.
