Description Janet 2006-06-22 18:37:59 UTC
Version: 3.5.3 (using KDE 3.5.3, Debian Package 4:3.5.3-1 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.16-kanotix-1

Since KDE 3.5.3 I noticed a very nasty behaviour of the konqueror filemanager (symbols view). When I open a directory konqueror *most of the time* does not show the files at the beginning of this directory but instead starts somewhere in the middle or at the end so that I always have to scroll up before I can see the first files.

I cannot reproduce it reliably, but once it happend I cannot change it back for this session. Sometimes I open e.g. my home directory and the first files/folders are shown (the first time I open it after a reboot), any other time I open it and it starts with the third row of icons so I have to scroll up. When I enter one of the folders and use the back or up arrow I always get back to the same starting point in my home directory (the third row in this case). Some other directories start at the bottom, some at the top. It is a very confusing behaviour which affects the workflow a lot. Expected behaviour: all directories shall start at the beginning.

Strange, yes. Both, the up and the back button seem to be corrupted 99% of the time, they both work the same and they both don't take you where you expect to go.
When I use the up button to go back one directory I expect to be taken to the top of the motherdirectory, when I use the back button I expect to be taken to the point where the folder I return from is located in the motherdirectory. But in both cases I am directed to somewhere in the middle of the motherdirectory so I either have to scroll up or down. I am using KDE 3.5.5, Debian Sid/Sidux.

I would expect the forward and back buttons to remember where the previous/next window was scrolled and return there (just like it does in the web view).

The up button should go to the top of the list.

The current behaviour (scroll to some random point in the list) is very bad.

To Janet

Do your submitted bug persists (ie. can you see the bugged behaviour in a newer version of konqueror?) or can we close the bug report?

I still have this problem with Konqueror/Dolphin of KDE 4.0.71...

I'll reassign this bug to Dolphin then. Janet, do you still have this problem? I can't reproduce in KDE 4.2.2: When I enter a directory in Icons View, I always see the files at the beginning of the directory. The same is true when returning from a sub-directory with "up". When returning using "back", the view scrolls to the old position as expected.

If something else needs to be done to reproduce the issue, please correct me. Thanks!

I can confirm it seems to be fixed in KDE 4.2.2.
