Description Daniel 2005-12-27 19:37:09 UTC
Version: 3.5.0-1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Please, I hope one of you guys has time to look at this and not ignore it because I am running Openbox window manager. This bug has been around for a very, very long time and I am finally reporting it again, after almost giving up hope that anyone would solve it. Here is a description of the problem:

In konqueror (running as "konqueror --profile filemanagement"):

In the right (file list) pane highlight a file, such as an .avi

In the menu bar select "Edit" -> "Edit File Type"

KEditFileType dialog window appears

Select (highlight) any application in the box under "Application Preference Order", in my case I will select "VLC media player"

Click the "Edit" button

Select the "Application" tab

Click the "Advanced Options" button lower right

Under "Startup" make sure "Enable launch feedback" is NOT selected

Click "OK" "OK" "OK" to exit

Now click on an .avi file to open it with "VLC media player"

BUG: Busy cursor appears for 30 seconds. When cursor is hovering over the konqueror window, the cursor is normal. But during the 30 seconds if it is moved away from the konqueror window (I have "focus follows mouse" set) then the busy cursor appears.

I have also done:

open kcontrol

select "Peripherals"

select "Mouse"

select "Cursor Theme" tab

select "No theme"

under "General" tab:
uncheck "Visual feedback on activation"

again in kcontrol:
select "Appearance & Themes"
select "Launch Feedback"
under "Busy Cursor" select "No Busy Cursor" in drop-down box
(also have "Enable taskbar notification" deselected

Daniel, can you still reproduce this bug? I tried with both KDE running then in the konsole typing "openbox --replace" following the rest of the instructions and also with simply the window manager ( KDE not loaded ) and could not experience it with KDE 3.5.9

Please reopen this bug if you can still reproduce it in a recent version of KDE.
