Description missive 2005-12-02 23:21:02 UTC
Version: 3.5 (using KDE 3.5.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Gentoo 3.3.6, ssp-3.3.6-1.0, pie-8.7.8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.14-gentoo-r3

I have konq set to open middle clicks in a new tab.

In file managing mode, this works only sometimes. For instance, middle-clicking a folder opens the folder in a new tab, but other objects open up in completely new windows...

PDF files open in a separate kpdf window.
zip/tgz files open up in a separate ark window.
images open in a separate kuickshow window.

If just double-clicked instead of middle-clicked, they will open in the current tab. I have them all set to open in the "embedded" viewer in file type preferences.

I can right-click and choose "open in new tab" and it works fine, but it would be good to just have the consistent middle-click like other objects and like from web pages.

Same here; just tried with KDE 3.5.5, PDF's set to open in embedded viewer, middle-click opens in new tab, and middle-click does indeed open PDF's in a new Window. Right-click + Open In New Tab yields the desired behaviour.

Same on r620k

Basically this problem still exists with Dolphin kpart in KDE4.1:
-Folders are opened correctly in a new tab when middle clicked
-Files that are displayed within konqueror when leftclicked (e.g. jpeg pictures) are not displayed when middle clicked. Instead a error is shown: "/home/user/some.jpeg is a file. Expected directory."

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 190551 ***

This isn't a duplicate of the 190551. The other bug is about closing tabs, not about opening embeded viewers in new tab, which still isn't working. Is there any way of removing the duplicate flag?

Hmm. Indeed. Sorry about that.

> -Folders are opened correctly in a new tab when middle clicked

This is the current functionality.

> -Files that are displayed within konqueror when leftclicked

Does anything autodisplay when you do that? Or do they all get you that menu?

Ok, so to clarify. In the ol' times it used to be:

No matter what content (file or directory):
- when the file associations were set to "open in separate viewer", it used to open a separate viewer on middle click,
- when the file associations were set to "open in embedded viewer", it used to open them in the new tab in embedded viewer.

Now there are few things that are wrong/different from the above:
- on "open in separate viewer" the middle click opens a new tab saying "Loading..." and opens it in separate viewer, a minor nuisance.
- on "open in embedded viewer" the directories open OK, but middle-clicking on the files brings error dialog saying "/home/user/some.jpeg is a file. Expected directory." (and OK button). It also leaves the "Loading..." tab there with blank content.

This is working for me now in 4.7.1
