Description Nicolas Dumoulin 2005-12-02 15:47:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

When I open system:/, and then enter in home, if I select a file, I can't run a command via the menu "Tools". A dialogbox tells me that it is only possible in a local directory.
Although I am in my home directory

It occurs too with home:/ slave

What application? The application must call a special function to get a local path from the URL.

Have a nice day!

The application in question is Konqueror.

Confirmed for r477777.
Comment 3 Ben Kevan 2005-12-03 16:47:27 UTC
I confirmed this also, it is reading all anything:/ style locations as "Remote". (Notice when you are on system:/ or anything:/ under the tools menu, select remote charset will be activated.

Confirmed for 3.5 (SuSE RPMs). If the general idea is to replace paths like "/home/$USER" with "system:/home" or system:/users etc. applications should be aware of this.
I opened a 500MB AVI file (/home/jens/foo.avi) with Kaffeine, and promptly Konqueror started copying this file to a temp directory before having Kaffeine open it! This cannot be right.

Maybe a duplicate of 117524 ?
Comment 6 J Appel 2008-05-18 12:23:40 UTC
the functionality is missing in recent kde 3 and kde 4 releases. as the related bug 117524 has beend marked as wontfix, so goes this.
Comment 7 J Appel 2008-05-18 12:55:19 UTC
*functionality only non-existant in KDE 4, leaving as WONTFIX after talking to the bug-squad squad.
