Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.2) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages I have a very annoying problem that is certainly a critical bug in konqueror or maybe kio_file (don't really know how this all works). When I do file change operations (i.e. move, copy,...) on a (mounted) samba share (served by a real samba server), after some or maybe only one of these operations, the Progress dialog appears and nothing happens from now forth. konqueror cannot be restarted nor even killed. Every app that tries to access the samba share from now on will immediatly lock up, with no way of killing in any way (and yes, i tried kill -9). Unmounting the samba share is not possible either. Even the shutdown can only be done via text console now and the root file cannot be unmounted (at least there's a message telling me this ("busy")). I don't really know when this bug was introduced into kde, i'm not changing the samba share so very often (it's mostly serving mp3s). I tried the same thing with other file manager like xfe, they work well. Maybe this bug only occurrs in the debian package, i cannot check this though. Just try to mount a samba share that's writeable, create a directory and move files into and from this directory. After a while (or maybe after the first time) konqueror will lock up and all other apps using this samba share, too (e.g. use xmms to play some music from the same share)
Just installed 3.5 rc1. Same here...
Alright, here's antoher update: I found the reason! I installed the "file alteration monitor (FAM)" a couple of days ago. Also "famd" could not be killed and uninstalling it solves the problem. Does konqueror make use of fam? If so, this bug will still occur on systems with fam installed. The bug should then be labelled differently... I leave this bug as unresolved until at least one developer has taken a look at it...
What do you mean? It worked when you uninstalled FAM? So you think FAM was to blame?
Well, if I remember right, it was just like that. But really, this bug report is almost 3 years old and i don't use this configuration anymore. So I cannot give you anymore information on this issue, sorry.
OK, closing then.
