Version: 3.4.91 (using KDE 3.4.91 (beta1, >= 20050910) Level "a" , SUSE 10.0.42) Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.13.2-2-default I changed the viewer mode of the type "text" in the settings menu to "show in external viewer". Now for example the "text/plain" type is set to inherit the behaviour from "text", so files of type "text/plain" should be opened in kwrite (which is the preferred viewer). But when I create a new textfile and double-click on it it´s shown in the embedded viewer.
Same here. Recent SVN branch. Other mime groups show the same behaviour
Any progress from one of the developers? Could this perhaps be set to a higher priority? The feature of inheriting this setting is totally broken. I also wanted to diable the internal viewer completely, so I set the "all" category to use an external viewer but this doesn´t work either.
Still there with 3.5 final. This makes it almost impossible to work with files which have an internal viewer but should be opened in an external program (e.g. pdf files when adobe reader is installed).
Any news???
It seems the setting needs a restart of konqueror. All new konqueror instances use the current setting for the text group, running instances use the one that was set when they were started. The problem is that the settings used for serviceTypeGroups ("text", "image") are not updated when the setting changes. see KonqFMSettings::shouldEmbed() (kdebase/libkonq/konq_settings.cc) I think m_embedMap needs an update.
To make it more clear: The setting for the service type group is stored in konquerorrc. Konqueror holds an KonquerorFMSettings object for these settings. If the settings are changed in the kcm, the konquerorrc is updated, but the settings object in konqueror is not and still contains the old settings.

It has been fixed on 3.5.9. KDE 4 instead use the dolphin part for file management, it's working right.
