Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.92) Installed from: Gentoo Packages In a Open URL / Save URL dialog, the authorization dialog does not appear when specifying a (remote) URL in the line on the top of the window (which usually holds the current directory name) in the form of protocol://[username]@host/[path], e.g. ftp://peter@server/. Instead, a progress bar first appears and disappears after some seconds -- that's all. When specifying protocol://username:passwor@host/[path], everything's fine (login happens, and the dialog does not need to appear). Please fix this since I often use this way to publish web sites etc. Thanks!
This is a duplicate of 114638. bugs.kde.org was down, and I couldn't realize that the report already had been transferred.
#114638 was not transferred correctly, reopening.
I cannot reproduce the problem. If I use e.g. fish:// in KWrite's open file dialog, after specifying the fish:// URL I get an authorization dialog, and it is on top of the open file dialog. What exactly happens in your case? Does the authorization dialog appear at all?
When typing fish://peter-thomassen.de/ into the field next to the encoding select box and pressing [Enter], I am asked to accept the SSH key. For half a second, a progress bar indicating 0% appears on the bottom left of the empty file list, and hides again. The authorization dialog does not appear. Giving it another try (having accepted the SSH key), only the progress bar appears as described, of course. It's the same with FTP. Specifying a username in the URL doesn't make any difference. (Specifying the password, too, works, but then there is no need for the authorization dialog.)
I can not reproduce on Kubuntu 6.0.6/KDE 3.5.4. I get the same behaviour as Lubos. Peter, does this still happen to you? Does it happen in any KDE application or is it specific to the application you use for publishing to your web sites?
It somehow has gotten better. When specifying fish:// URLs, everything works fine, i.e. the authorization dialog appears in all cases. With ftp:// URLs, the dialog only appears if I hint a username in the URL (without a password), p.ex. ftp://peter@server/. If I only enter ftp://server/, the dialog doesn't appear (while the progress bar does for half a second). Strangely, fish://server/ makes the dialog appear. I don't know if it's of any relevance, but when trying ftp://server/ in a Konqueror window, the dialog appears and I can browse through the FTP repository, so the problem only exists with the Open and Save dialogs. This is true for all KDE applications. "Publishing web sites" actually stands for any remote work done by FTP and was just a famous example, so saving things from Kolourpaint, KWrite, KMail on an FTP server requires me to specify a username in the URL. (At the time I reported this bug, it even required both a username and a password in the URL.) FYI, I upgraded to KDE 3.5.4 since that time.
Do you stil have this problem with recent version of kwin?
This bug is no more reproducible using KDE 4.5.2. - the "progress bar first appears and disappears after some seconds" bug has been fixed long time ago - the open/save dialog call the login dialog, if needed, and it is opened on top with the right data.
