Version: 1.1.3 (using KDE 3.4.2, Debian Package 4:3.4.2-4 (testing/unstable)) Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.12.3 akregator just told me that its feed.opml was broken and therefore a backup file was created. Looking at .kde/share/apps/akregator/data showed me: feed.opml : 1778 bytes, as reverted to default feeds feed.opml~ : 4729 bytes, containing the previous broken xml-contents feed.opml-backup.xxxx : 0 bytes, supposing to contain the backup I quit akregator (kontact) and copied the feed.opml~ to feed.opml, trying to restore the feeds (at that time, I didn't know that feed.opml~ contained the error). Again, akregator complained about the broken feeds and that another backup file was created, but the result was: feed.opml : 1778 bytes, defaults feed.opml~ : 0 bytes feed.opml-backup.yyyy : 0 bytes Conclusion: the backup-function does not work.
The backup is improved in 3.5, now a backup of the feed list is stored in the storage backend, and restored when something goes wrong with feeds.opml. See also http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104015
Thanks!
