Left menu reaction time is few seconds.
Same when trying to change page / close window.
Even on my Athlon 1700 / 512 MB

hmm, it looks pretty OK for me w/3.5.1. It loads up the CPU due to all the flashing/animating things, but no freezes.

This works for me as well using KDE 4.0.3. Konqueror seems very responsive. However I have a newer CPU (AMD Sempron).

Using Gentoo Linux ~x86 (testing in gentoo lingo). KDE and the majority of packages compiled using gcc 4.3.0.

Issue was repeated with Pentium III, 600 Mhz, 256 MB RAM, KDE 3.5.8.

I experience the same problem with other "heavy loaded" websites (websites with a lot of media content), lag or hang of the page for a couple of seconds (2 to 3 secs) and  slow response under the mouse gesture when switching from a tab to another.

Fans are starting to run full speed, it feels like the computer runs at its limits. It feels also that the issue concerns the display as when "heavy loaded pages" are put in a background tab, the navigation among other tabs is quite fluid. When accessing that tab, it is slow. Sometimes, it freezes Konqueror. So far, freezing Konqui happened only when accessing a heavy loaded tab or closing a tab while having heavy loaded tabs in the background.

Seems to be very old and work OK now.
