Description Duncan Tooke 2005-06-15 16:17:39 UTC
Version: 1.1.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.27-2-686

Although there is the nice option of using the filter bar to search for specific terms, it is only possible to order articles by name, feed or date. Is there any chance of implementing a detailed news sorting feature, like the one found in RSSOwl? Multiple categories in descending priority are a great feature, and being able to sort by read/unread is an absolute must.

@Duncan: Perhaps you can provide a screen shot of RSSOwl where one can see this feature?

I agree that being able to sort by unread/read status would be useful. Sometimes I cannot find that one unread article buried in a large collection of articles, especially if the article was updated long after it was first published. Thanks!

That's a great addition, and certainly fixes the most prominent problem (having read and unread articles mixed up together).

Is there any chance of implementing a combination ordering, like in RSSOwl? I was thinking of something like:

Read before unread > new before old > site > title > ...etc

The best would be if individual users could customise the exact order of the above.

The idea in general is quite obviously useful but I am strongly against copying this UI -- it is horrible.

Sorting should be done on-fly by simply clicking on the column, and multi-sorting is done by selecting columns holding ctrl down.
Smart behaviour as downgrading previous order to new order would also be helpful, i.e.
user clicked (no ctrl) - name -> sort by name
user clicked (no ctrl) - status -> sort by status, name

Forcing user to go to settings just to set sorting order is tiresome and less intuitive than sorting on fly (because you don't see results right away).

Hi there. I would like to suggest some more sorting options:
1) sorting the feeds according to how they are arranged in the feeds list. That will mean I can put my important feeds and folders at the top and read them in the order of importance to me.
2) sorting according to number of new articles. I want to read the feeds with only one or two updates before going on to the feeds having 100s of new articles. Ones having less update frequency usually means they are more important and should not be missed, in contrast to those having high frequency, most likely being regular news etc which are glossed over.

Are these ideas useful enough? I for one would find them highly useful if implemented.
