Description Médéric Boquien 2005-04-29 18:07:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

When using the tibetan machine unicode font (you can download it for instance from http://iris.lib.virginia.edu/tibet/tools/download.html?tmu ), KHTML doesn't render the letters correctly. For instance, when the letters are inside a box, the letters are too high and spread outside the box. I've made a small test-case: http://mboquien.free.fr/tibetain.html , where the letters should be bounded inside the red box, like it is rendered with firefox.
Some tibetan letters are made of several unicode characters. The letter ཧཱུྃ is composed in fact of three characters : ཧཱུྃ It seems that KHTML calculates the height of only ཧ (&#3943) to display ཧཱུྃ therefore it gets the height wrong. This problem is a little bit problematic when dealing with some tibetan letters in an HTML page.
Thank you in advance and thank you very much for this nice desktop :)

Bug still exists in KDE 4.
Comment 6 Chris Fynn 2007-12-17 03:29:37 UTC
What values are being used to calculate the height & depth of the bounding box?

The Tibetan Machine Uni font has the following metric values for height & descent:

OS/2 TypoAscender: 1248
0S/2 TypoDescender: -800
OS/2 TypoLineGap: 0

WinAscent: 1248
WinDescent: -800

hhea Ascender: 1248
hhea Descender: -800

None of the glyhs shown are not greater in height than 1248 units nor they descend below -800 units. (The font's TT UPM, on which the metric values for this font are based, is 1024.)

There hasn't been any activity on this issue for some time. Please check if this issue is still valid for Konqueror 4.8.4 or later and update the version field accordingly.
Thank you.
