Description Christian Heller 2005-04-20 22:52:35 UTC
Version: 3.3.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-2-686

1 Use KAddressBook with resource in vCard format and a directory as location
2 Add a number of custom fields
3 Delete some of them
4 Check the VCARD files on file level (in Midnight Commander or the like)

--> BUG: the deleted custom fields are NOT deleted in the vCard file
--> over time, a lot of old/unwanted fields are accumulated in the vCard file
Comment 1 Martin Steigerwald 2006-10-28 21:24:29 UTC
I can confirm this is KDE 3.5.5.
Comment 2 BORGULYA Gábor 2007-05-12 11:49:36 UTC
As I am using my vCards not only with KAddressBook so I consider this a feature rather than a bug. I agree that it would be a useful utility if a custom field could be deleted from all the vCards, but I would prefer it as an explicit option. Maybe there could be a checkbox near the delete button if I want to delete the entries from the files or only the edit window field.

This bug is still valid for kadressbook 4.1. If you create and delete a user defined field it's still shown in the contact summary, but no longer in the according tab. This is defenitely a bug not a feature.
Comment 4 Jonathan Thomas 2008-09-28 14:31:24 UTC
I can reproduce this in KDE 4.1.2 with the steps from comment #3.
Comment 5 Tobias Koenig 2009-08-05 16:24:27 UTC
The development of the old KAddressBook will be discontinued for KDE 4.4.
Since the new application has the same name, but a completly new code base we close all bug reports against the old version and ask the submitters to resend there reports against the new product.
