Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: RedHat RPMs OS: Linux I installed kde 3.4 using rpms for fedora core 3 (ex. kdebase-3.4.0.0.fc3.0.i386.rpm). No problems, everythings seems to work. But randomly a message is displayed , saying "Display changed: LCD off". This occours very often, also if I'm not using the pc. Searching on internet, i found something related to this problem in the file /kdeutils/kmilo/asus/asus.cpp, I hope this can help you to resolve this bug.
I have the same problem with my laptop. My hardware is: - Asus V6V with Ati Radeon X600 My software is: - Linux platform (Kubuntu 5.04) - Kde 3.4 Don't know if the bug is really related to kde or any sub layer.
I have the same problem with Kde 3.4 on Ubuntu Hoary + kunbuntu-desktop my hardware is a Asus A3N with a intel 855GM
i have the same problem.... all started upgrading to kde 3.4 on slackware... i'm using asus l5860
I have same bug in gentoo(2005.0) on l5860 too.
Again, Gentoo 2005.0 and V6V (i915+Radeon X600). The problem could be related to the "Asus Laptop ACPI extras". Infact almost all the mentioned distributions activate this module that says: Asus Laptop ACPI Extras version 0.29 Error calling BSTS V6V model detected, unsupported, trying default values, supply the developers with your DSDT I've already alerted them with my V6V DSDT. If I disable the Asus extras I don't get that OSD anymore.
i have the same problem.... kubuntu 5.4 Asus W3N // Bios 204 Where can I find the "Asus Laptop ACPI extras"?
It's in the kernel, so you have to configure and recompile the kernel. Another option is to uninstall kmilo. On Monday 04 July 2005 10:08, andreas wrote: [bugs.kde.org quoted mail]
Solution: ---------------------------------------------------------- edit: /usr/share/services/kded/kmilod.desktop set values: X-KDE-Kded-autoload=false X-KDE-Kded-load-on-demand=false ---------------------------------------------------------- (worked for ASUS A3G Series A3800) I found this solution here: http://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/Asus_W3N-Kompendium:_Kubuntu
Confirm problem on an Asus A6K laptop with asus_acpi module installed (required for some laptop functions) and kmilo. I'm using Mandriva 2006 x86_64. Dmesg shows: Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status /var/log/messages: Oct 12 10:25:02 xxxxxxxx kernel: Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status Oct 12 10:25:33 xxxxxxxx last message repeated 608 times It seems likely that there is an issue with the asus_acpi module not being compatible with the LCD on this laptop, but kmilo should be able to handle this problem better. Contrary to previous comments, turning off kded(kmilo) does not fix the underlying problem in kmilo. (Since when has turning off a program been the solution to a bug with it??)
I have the same problem with Kubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger), running KDE 3.4.3. Laptop: Asus T9000. syslog is full of these messages: Asus ACPI: Error reading brightness Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status Thanks, Beat

I have the same problem on an ASUS W5 since I upgraded to KDE 3.5RC1 using the binary packages provided by SUSE.
The same problem with my ASUS A6R-B002. My OS is Kubuntu 5.10 Breeze. "Asus ACPI: Erorr reading LCD status" with frequency 10Hz in /var/log/syslog and others logs. Every couple minut window with "Display changed: LCD off/on". i change permissions of file: "chmod -rw /proc/acpi/asus/lcd" and modified "/usr/share/services/kded/kmilod.desktop" file
Using Ubuntu Breezy, I have upgraded KDE from 3.4.3 to 3.5.1. The bug is still present and quite annoying. Laptop: T9400.
I have installed the new KDE 3.5.2 (from packages provided by deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde352 breezy main) on Ubuntu Breezy and this bug is still present.
Same with Asus W3V and (K)Ubuntu Dapper Beta 2. I have KDE 3.5.2.
SVN commit 544282 by howells: Work about buggy asus_acpi module for bug 102374 by just disabling it for now. Is it possible to get this into 3.5.3? some problem asus a6r
It's a stupid asus_acpi bug : if the model is not supported, asus_acpi act like if it was a M2E (M2400E, L4400L) ... but the lcd_status value for M2E only works for M2E ! I have already sent a patch to support A6J .. http://xf.iksaif.net/linux/asus_acpi_a6jc.patch I wait an answer for this patch, and then I will do a patch for default values (and maybe other asus laptop ..).
KMilo is no longer maintained, marking all bugs accordingly.
