Version: 1.0 (using KDE 3.4.0, Debian Package 4:3.4.0-0pre2 (3.1)) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7 This would be especially useful for me because I use articles sorted with most recent at the bottom (to allow Shift+Plus to select next unread item). Whenever I select a feed I always have the one at the top selected by default (so I can't see what new feeds have appeared on the same window without further input). However, even if that weren't the case I feel for consistency that kagregator should behave just like kmail and start showing the last article read when you reopen a feed. Thanks!

Comment on attachment 12863 [details] Patch to akgregator (relative to kde-3.4.2 release) which better control over article uniqueness. Weird - patch was supposed to be for a different bug.
I don't think we should follow KMail 100% here. If one selects a feed, usually one wants to read the new articles - and not the article he read last time he used akregator. OTOH, when switching quickly between feeds, it's indeed annoying that akregator doesn't remember the position. The problem with oldest on top is indeed a problem, but can also be fixed in another way (by scrolling to the newest item).

It would nice indeed if akregator showed the first unread article indeed, _when_ the articles are read with the oldest on top and the most recent at the bottom. In this mode each time a feed is entered, one needs to use the "+" button (next unread), to show the first unread article.... It looks like that it depends on the article order when "jump to first unread article, when entering feed" is desired. As such it looks like that this feature/functionality should be configurable (that's to my opinion). A nice place for the configuration option would be: akregator -> settings -> advanced ;) -> article list or of course akregator -> settings -> general -> general
