Description Ian Ventura-Whiting 2005-02-28 16:21:37 UTC
Version: 3.4 RC1 (using KDE KDE 3.4.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

Please, Please, Please tone down the bright blue colours on the KDE information pages. This applies equally to Konqueror, KInfoCenter, Control Center and other apps. There is nothing wrong with the design, it is a great improvement, but the blue is just too bright.

It reminds me of the ugly bright green Atari ST desktop, but in blue!
Comment 1 Stephan Binner 2005-03-01 12:16:53 UTC
Agreed, even on LCD.
Comment 2 Waldo Bastian 2005-03-01 12:46:50 UTC
Some addiotinal constructive feedback:
The white background shadow of the text creates a "blurry" impression, known from overcompressed jpegs or slightly mistuned TVs.
If you have the text "KDE Control Center" then the "KDE" part is on top of the bright blue, and here the white background shadow gives too much of a halo effect IMHO.
Example attached.

I wasn't too bothered about the "halo" effect more the "I need sun glasses to look at my screen" effect. I do admit that the general style looks much better than previous versions.

Has the blue background got brighter since beta2?

I'm also not fond of the new information pages and I would much prefer if they were less bold and eye grabbing. For example, I can change my icons and theme settings, but the information screens are always going to stay the same (I don't want to have 'information page themes', they just aren't that important). They should just use the system colours and fonts and stick to a basic style to try and not do anything that could conflict with how people want to theme their desktop. For instance, I would much prefer if the information screens looked a bit more like the Summary plugin for Kontact. The screen for that is simple and not overpowering and will match with whatever I set my themes/colours too because it just looks like a basic webpage. There is no need to make the information pages so fancy in my opinion.

The Blue has defiantly got brighter between the Beta2 and RC1 releases. Please put it back before the final release.

Why not make the stuff alpha transparent and use the current KDE colour scheme highlight colour underneath? I was surprised nobody else has suggested this yet.

The default KDE scheme will still show these screens/etc. with the KDE-brand-colours. But for everyone else it will most likely come out looking good with whatever scheme and preferences they have.

Excellent Idea. We will add this feature in 3.4.1 if possible
Comment 11 Ian Ventura-Whiting 2005-03-06 12:49:29 UTC
Can't you just revert back to the beta2 background?
Comment 12 Mohd Asif Ali Rizwaan 2005-04-22 15:45:39 UTC
make Theme-ing for this. The Backgroud color/image must be allowed to change. Users can make more attractive background for Control Center, System, etc. applications.

I don't like the Dark Blue color. It was good in KDE 3.3. Thank you.

I like the new colours in the kde info pages, please don't switch them back.
Comment 15 Ian Ventura-Whiting 2005-04-23 14:26:37 UTC
Did you see the colours on the Beta versions of KDE 3.4 though, they were much better than the RC and final release versions. The Beta and RC/Final versions are amost identical in colour, but the Betas were slightly less bright (no sunglasses required, unlike the new version).
