Version:           1.7.91 (using KDE 3.3.2, compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)

Yeah, finally I found the pattern for this annoying bug. 

How to reproduce:
Use a Quick Search, i.e. either enter something in the Search field or change the Status. Then switch to another folder. Result: Some message (actually the correct message) will be displayed in the preview pane but no message is selected in the message list.

BTW, I can not reproduce this.
Ingo, was this maybe fixed in the meantime?
