Description Joshua Doyle 2004-09-03 05:00:13 UTC
Version: 1.0_beta3 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: 3.3.4-r1
OS: Linux

Using akregator I am continually banned from receiving RSS updates from Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/index.rss). I've entered "fetch every 31 minutes" into the feed options (as there minimum is 30) though it says that I have been abusing the server and can not request a feed again for another 72 hours.

I've contacted Slashdot who have sayed that my agregator hit them 31 times in the one sitting. This is a rather scary coinsidence when you consider I had set the fetch delay to every 31 minutes. What I think may be happening is that akregator must be fetching the slashdot feed 31 times every minute instead of 1 time every 31 minutes.

This is only happening with the slashdot feed, as they are the only ones in my feed list that impose a update interval restriction.
Comment 2 Frank Osterfeld 2004-09-03 07:52:41 UTC
I had autofetch set to 10 minutes for a long time, which didn't cause any problems with slashdot. Then I set it accidentally to 1 minute, after that, I got also banned :-)
Now it's set to reasonable 30 mins, which works fine.
You said 31 min is your feed specific setting. What is globally set in the configuration dialog?

Well since posting the bug report I've emerged beta 6 and am still having the same problem. My global feed update in the configuration dialog is 40 mintues, as had to reset all my feeds upon installing beta 6. Since then I have reconnected to my dsl server and obtained a different IP, and requested the slashdot feed, though I still get the same ban message.

perhaps we should silently drop any fetch requests that are past the feed's interval.. we currently DONT do it

will target this for b7

This is probably fixed in CVS now, but I'll leave that open anyway. Please confirm if the bug is fixed.

Hi Frank,

I've not been able to log into the kde bug tracking system, but I have
verified that this bug is now fixed. Slashdot now works correctly with
1.0_beta-7

regards,
Josh.
