Description Winfried Rohr 2004-08-23 06:40:37 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Tried to use different wallpapers for virtual desktops
Preview shows choosen one, but ACCEPT or OK button doesn't update the wallpaper on the screen.
Reported also on other versions of SuSE's rpms (9.0 and 9.1)
Comment 1 Winfried Rohr 2004-08-23 06:57:34 UTC
applied changes through desktop context menu.
Using control center (afterwards) recognises the changed settings (in preview window), but doesn't reflect a change either

For what it's worth, and for anyone still using KDE 3 & stumbling on the same problem:

- I think this was wrongly marked as a duplicate. (Bug 12620 has AFAICT nothing to do with wallpapers.)

- I have been experiencing this same bug with KDE 3.5.5, exactly as described by the original submitter, and have diagnosed a probable mechanism causing this.

Lubos Lunak: Can you unmark this as a duplicate, and (possibly) "un-resolve" this, if it's not too much trouble? I know KDE 3 is old hat now that KDE 4 is out, but this bug might never actually have been resolved. (I will try to remember to report back when I get a chance to test if this still happens with KDE 3.5.9.)

The apparent cause:
- When changing the wallpaper, ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc is updated for e.g. the section [Desktop1], but for some reason there is also a section [Desktop1Screen0], which is NOT updated. This section is the one that actually defines what gets used, and only manually editing the file brings out the required changes.

I am currently using an xorg.conf with only 1 screen set up, but I was testing a dual-screen setup earlier, and suspect that this bug may have appeared after this.
