"RSS 2.0 is simple, and has a publish/subscribe system that can make it possible to receive updates immediately without polling. Unfortunately, very few news aggregators currently implement the <cloud> tag necessary for publish/subscribe. 


The CIA server implements the <cloud> tag, so if you have a compatible aggregator and a globally routable IP address you should see RSS feed updates almost instantly. However, the only compatible aggregator we're aware of at the moment is Radio Userland, and it is a commercial product. The ability to receive RSS updates in real-time would go a long way toward CIA's goals, so please let us know if you have seen other RSS aggregators supporting the <cloud> tag."

This would mean a very nice way to make aKregator a killer. Very nice program anyhow.

it's possible to implement this, but it requires a SOAP and a XML-RPC implementation. Added with the fact that so few sites (and feed readers) implement it, it's low priority.

Yes, its low priority but was in my initial plans to implement.
Probably before 2.0.

It's a "cloud" tag and not a "could" tag like the bug title says.

There really should be a general tag cloud possiblity. At least for KDE4. Tags are also needed in amarok, digikam, ocular and other programs. This should be something sexy with eye-candy. There is some code for it already on kde-apps.org for amarok - but it is just done with python-tk (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/AmarokCloud?content=51865).

@Sputnik: This bug is not about tag clouds but about the RSS <cloud>-tag which enables nearly instaneous updating for RSS feeds.
