Description Fred Wells 2004-05-24 21:50:10 UTC
Version: 0.8.2 (using KDE 3.2.2, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.2-3mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-0.25mdkenterprise

Kopete has long been missing these features, common in nearly all other IM clients. Is there ANY hope of adding file transfer cabability anytime in the foreseeable future?

I'd honestly like to remain the die-hard Kopete fan that I have been, but find it frustratingly more difficult as time passes without these basic features being implemented.

It just doesn't seem natural to have to resort to using GAIM in KDE. :)

File transfer has been present for a long time in Kopete itself already, however, only the MSN protocol implemented it so far. AFAIK IRC supports DCC and with KDE 3.3 Jabber will also support file transfers.

The Jabber plugin did not support file transfers before as there was no common standard for them. Gaim and other clients introduced their own "standards" which I don't think are a good idea and were not supported by our backend either.

I don't know what the situation for AIM is, I'll retitle the bug accordingly as it would otherwise be an invalid report. If such a report already exists for AIM, feel free to close as dupe.

jabber file transfers are already implemented in CVS, and AIM file transfers are already filed as a seperate bug.

I would implement file transfers in OSCAR (AIM & ICQ), but frankly, I don't have the time, and unless somebody steps up to financially support one of the (OSCAR) developers so that they can take the time to do this, it'll be awhile before it gets done.
