Description Aaron Peterson 2004-02-27 10:37:56 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.3.2
OS: Linux

My sound was skipping, I was just going to live with the huge latency that I set in Sound & Multimedia > Sound System.

Untill I found an artsd kicker applet that told me to run my artswrapper as suid!

If artswrapper must be set suid for:
Run with the highest possible priority (realtime priority)
checkbox to do anything,

then it should be greyed out if artswrapper is not suid, and bring up a little helpful note that says how to chmod artswrapper, or just say that it must be suid root...

I have since been able to bring my latency down enough to be able to play quake3 with artsdsp.

So... setting it suid really did correspond with my sound working with lower latency...

Thank you!

Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
