Version:           1.6 (using KDE 3.2.0, compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.2 20031107 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-2)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.22-1.2149.nptl

I need to use different identities to send mail to different places.

kmail supports multiple identities, but AFAIK, it doesn't have a way to intelligently select.

I'd like to see:

1) Select based on regex of destination
2) When configuring a folder to correspond to a mailing list, I'd like to be able to set the default identity to be used.

Actually, #1 is sufficient, but #1 + #2 would be nice.

#2 is already possible. Actually you can specify an identity for any folder (except the five system folders) and not just for mailing list folders. It will be used for replies and for new messages.

#1 would IMO be very confusing because the identity would change while you enter the destination address.

Isn't #2 sufficient?

Are you aware of the set identity filter action?

If mail I receive is sent to sanders@kde.org then I "set identity to" 
my KDE identity. If it is sent to sanders@trolltech.com then I "set 
identity to" my Trolltech identity.

I guess a *@kde.org regexp could be used instead of a complete email 
address. In case a mail is sent to both addresses it is necessary to 
order filters so that one identity takes priority.

Note that the set identity filter action doesn't help for newly created messages.

Filters which are applied to outgoing messages (i.e. before sending) would fix the problem.
