Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-144-default

Access of a Remote site via sftp fails do display German localized characters corretly. Even it is not possible to access those files for copy or move ...

local site was SuSe 9.0 with kde 3.1.94 / 3.1.4 - remote site Mac OS X 10.3.1 - access via sftp://alexander@desktop.local/Users/....

Not only german -- but russian too. 
and in fish:// too.
