Description Thomas Trauner 2003-11-18 13:27:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: FreeBSD Ports
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20020320 [FreeBSD]
OS: FreeBSD

I can't get the kdm login screen (only for one second or so, an then it disappears) when I connect to my FreeBSD Box with XDMCP and X-Win32 5.4 patch level 2 in so called "Multi Window Mode". This means each X11 Window gets Displayed like any other Windows window, controlled by the Remote Window Manager. In "normal" Window Mode, where all X Apps get displayed within an Windows window, all works fine. With xdm as login manager, both modi work fine. I've tried a newer Version of X-Win32, but with no change.

The following output appears in /var/log/kdm.log:

XFree86 Version 4.3.0
Release Date: 27 February 2003
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6
Build Operating System: FreeBSD 4.9 i386 [ELF]

hmm, i know what the problem is and have an idea how to work around it, but i'm not sure i _want_ to fix it - i actually plan changes that are going to conflict with the multi-window mode even more.
also, i don't really see why somebody would _want_ to run kdm in such an environment - after all, it is supposed to start a full session that will certainly create even more conflicts ...

nobody explained why one would want it ...
