When disk space runs out kmail can have some serious errors.

I have just had my machine run out of space.  When I changed folder from Inbox
to Trash the Inbox indexes were re-written, due to lack of space they were
truncated (and kmail did not issue a warning).  When I switched back to the
Inbox it reported 0 messages!!!

It should have informed me that there was a lack of disk space first, then it
should have offered to empty the Trash folder to reclaim some space.  Finally
it should have offered to keep retrying to write the file while I went to
another window and did whatever was necessary to free some space.

Finally, kmail should have two copies of the indexes of the active folder.
Then if space runs out it can write one copy, delete the other, and simply
refuse to open a folder if there is no space to copy the indexes.
