This is actually a feature. I think the only way to work around the applet's resizing is to have an option for running it with a fixed size - I'll make that a wishlist bug. It's an annoying feature, I was about to report it to. I love the applet, a fixed size option (and maybe some explanatory tooltips - ?pause button???) would make it perfect. Yes please. It would be great to have the fixed size option. On my machine when the dl/ul speeds and other activity in the kmld applet is updated the panel is redrawn anyway. This causes other items (kmix, kopete, klipper, clock, etc.) to flicker. -- But maybe this is just due to the panel's API. eric: this is a seperate bug, which you should consider posting here. cheers, muesli no this is the same bug that eric is describing. The most annoying thing about the resizing is that everything else on the panel moves and is redrawn. this sometimes causes flickering sometimes it does not, however, in both cases this is visually quite irritating. We are now almost 3 years into this bug and I have found even more interaction with the panel that is annoying. By now I am running version 0.10.1 / KDE 3.5.4 and XGL/compiz with transparent panel. --- you know, once you have compiz, everything has to be somehow transparent ;-) --- The resizing of the applet causes the transparency to have to be redrawn. The background shifts with the applet resize and is the re-rendered in the original place. This causes a very noticable visual disturbance. Another good way to fix this bug would IMHO be to remember the maximum width the applet ever needed and to keep it at that size. This bug is no more reproducible in the KDE 4 version. |
